Spring time babies.

We've been waiting for Spring, and it officially arrived last weekend.
When the chicks arrive, we know it's Spring!
We raised laying hens, and meat hens on our little farm when the girls were growing up.
My youngest daughter, Melissa, and her family have decided to follow the tradition of "gathering eggs".
Their chicks arrived Easter week.
The three girls picked out the ones they wanted to raise.
Olivia thinks the little birds are the funniest things ever!

I love to hear her giggle, and squeal with glee when the chicks are running around, and hopping all over the place!
Olivia is a source of sweet joy to me.
Charlotte is constantly squishing the poor little things close to her.  She loves them, and doesn't understand how fragile they are.
Being a rough, little tomboy doesn't help matters.
If one of the chicks ends up looking like a pancake, I won't be surprised.
You can see it in her eyes....."these things are so cute, I could just squeeze them to death"!
She is a pip!!!  I could just squeeze the dickens out of her!!!!
Maddie wasn't home the day I was visiting. I will have to share pictures of her in another post.
The weather is still going from warm to cold here in northern-lower Michigan.
I'm waiting for the nights to stay above freezing.  There are so many projects I'd like to get started on outside. In the meantime, I'm painting the sun room.
It's time to get ready for another day at the pharmacy.  I'm blessed to work with some great people.  They make me laugh....I think they are all a little "touched", but that's just between me and you.
Have a great day everyone!

  1. What adorable "chicks" both bird and human! (Giggle). Seriously, just beautiful girls. What fun. My mom raised chickens. I was afraid of the big hens and didn't want to reach under them to get eggs....Wow, you brought back a memory of years ago... Have a great day.

  2. I love chicks and chickens! What precious little girls. I love their names! SO romantic. We have had the last 2 nights in the 30s, but no frost in the mornings. Its getting up in the 60-70s during the days, so not bad at all.
What color are you painting the sun room? You will have to show us when you get it done. I think a blue/gray and white stripe would be super fun for a sun room on the water.
Have fun at work with the touched ones. Dancin' in the aisles!

  3. Oh Debbie how cute are the girls with the chicks!! Too sweet. We are kind of the same way with weather here outside Chicago. I want to get outside too so I wish this weather would stay in the warmer temps. I hope you will do a post on the sun room when you get it painted. I have always wanted a pretty sun room. I bet yours is beautiful. Have a great day my friend.

  4. Debbie, The chicks are cute and the chick handlers are way too cute. The crack me up with those chickens. My Emma got some and I hope they last long enough to lay an egg. LOL. I have been retired for 12 years, fortunate enough to retire with 30 years...and I miss the crazy people I worked with. Had a lot of fun times at work...it helps when you can get along with co-workers. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  6. The grand girls are so sweet with their little chickie babies. I think our weather is about the same as yours and today warmed up enough to get out and do a bit more gardening.

  7. LOL- Well-you are in good company with your co-workers then (ducking my head here)....lol

Those grandgirls are just darling. So very, very cute. There is nothing like baby chicks is there? We used to get them every Spring when I was a kid, too, to replenish the flock.

I am anxious to get outside, too. Right now it is too cold and rainy to do anything outside. xo Diana

  8. The girls are just adorable, Debbie! Looks like they are having fun with the chicks! That brings back memories for me, as when I was a little girl, my dad would bring home a box full of dozens of little yellow chicks. They weren't so cute when they went thru the ugly stage, though! Can't wait to see pics (hopefully!) of your repainted sun room! Cooler than normal here too, hopefully it will warm up soon! Hugs to you!

  11. Your grandgirls are adorable Debbie! My 9 year old son has a pet chicken. They really make good pets surprisingly. I think you have to be a bit touched to work with the public. Just sayin... Hope you have a great weekend!

  12. Hi Debbie, the grandgirls are little darlings. Look at those precious smiles. Love the baby chicks. So cute!! Did you know I am from Michigan? Born and raised in Dearborn but now live in Texas by way of Indiana and Ohio. Job transfers!! Small world huh!! I guess when you work with the public you have to be a bit touched to get through it. I did for years and maybe that's my problem. LOL LOL
    Have a great weekend!!
    Hugs

  15. Your granddaughters are just beautiful!! And I think the chicks are precious, too! They scare me a little when they're grown! We used to go to a farm near the lakehouse every Saturday to get fresh eggs. I love birds, have raised them from babies, but chickens weird me out! Ha!

Yes, the nights and early mornings are nippy here. I just feel compelled to get my grass seed down. Our lawn was destroyed by grubs last year. And we native Midwesterners are cautious about planting anything too early, right?

I think your job sounds great. If I miss anything bout working, it's the camaraderie of my fellow employees. All different sorts of people but feeling like you're all in the same boat.

Take care and have a great weekend, Debbie!

    XO,
    Jane

  16. Adorable!! Those girls are so happy with their chicks! :)

Weather is swinging back and forth here in PA as well. I started SOME seeds awhile back...glad I didn't do all of them. Take them out, bring them in, take them out, cover them, back and forth. Ugh / I shall remind myself to just wait until May next year! :)

  17. Awww, what precious little angels those girlies are! I hope to have granddaughters some day so I can spoil them rotten:) Love the little chics too! My youngest son is studying birds, he's working on getting his Falconry license right now:)

I'm still getting an error message when I try to follow so I added your blog URL to my blog roll so now I won't miss your posts! Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

  18. Debbie~ I couldn't find your email address on the Google+ page or on your blog. Do you have one?

I wanted to say thanks for the visit and something else but now I've forgotten! lol!

Hope you're having a great weekend!

  19. Oh, there's nothing I love better than a soft little chick. We used to raise chickens for the eggs when we lived inland. I really miss them. Your little ones are adorable, but I know what you mean when you say they might squeeze one into a pancake. Love it strong isn't it?!
