Treasures of the Heart

The sky is a gorgeous blue, with no clouds.
This is the time of year when the sun shines through the windows here at the cottage...brighter than any other time of the year.

It's the time of year when I bring out my canning jar collection.
I love the wonderful blues.

They look so pretty with the flowers in the window boxes on the other side of the glass.
The color of the jars is magnified by the rays of the sun.

I've filled some of the jars with my other collection....seashells.
Nothing says "summer" like seashells.

Another favorite thing to search for are old blue bottles.
The aqua color makes me catch my breath!

It amazes me how much more the color will come out when the sun hits the glass.
Each jar has a unique shade of blue all it's own.
I have LOTS of shells that I've collected. Each year, I sprinkle a few onto our little beach for the grand kiddos to find.  When they come up to stay, they are excited to find seashells on the beach!
I also have beach glass for them to find this year.
When they pack their bags to go home, they make sure to pack a small jar of treasures found while vacationing at Gramma's house.
Little do those kiddos know....they are the treasures that I keep(above jars, bottles, and seashells)....in my heart.
Have a happy weekend!

  2. Debbie, What a cute idea, letting the kids make a special jar of treasure to take home. Kids remember those things. I love the way the flowers looked on the other side of the jars...so pretty. Hope you are loving you some good summer weather. I just can't get enough of these wonderful days. Blessings to you, my dear friend, Susie

  3. Aren't you a sweet grandmother to place shells for the grands to find! This is a memory they'll always remember.
I must get my blue jars out too, no shells but I'm sure I can find something to put in them.
    Happy weekend!

  4. Debbie the blue jars are my favorites, of course. You'll see them in almost every vignette somewhere. Lot both baskets and of course the soft white fabric is the kind I want to fall back in. These are great! Oh yea, I loved the idea of filling your jars with shells, sand and seaglass. I've got to be on the look out for sea glass. You can't find it around here.

  7. So pretty and so sweet how you sprinkle the beach with shells for the grandchildren! The shell tradition reminds me of Kevin Henkes's book Junonia. I think the protagonist is ten. My daughter enjoyed that book when she was younger. Here's the study guide to read and see if it is appropriate. http://www.kevinhenkes.com/book/junonia/ I don't know if they are old enough for it yet. Henkes wrote a lot of great picture books too.

  9. I love your shells in the blue jars. I have some shells from our vacations to the ocean and they are in clear glass jars, but I just might be changing them into my blue jars...so pretty!!
I wish the sun was shining in my windows today, but it has rained on and off here for the last couple of days.
    hugs,
    Cindy

  13. Hi Debbie, Simply beautiful. I love your collection of jars and the way the sunlight hits the glass. There is something about canning jars that take me back to childhood and remembering my mother and grandmother canning in the basement in hot and muggy Michigan in the summertime. In the evening you could hear the sound of the jars sealing like a musical ping. Mom would smile knowing those jars would be complete and perfect.

Love the addition of your shells and the memories your found treasures have for your grands.
Thank you for taking me back to a special memory.

    Lovely post!!
    Hugs
